When a man returns to his hometown in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a group of local surfers who claim the secluded beach of his childhood. Received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Festival. The story unfolds as Cage arrives at a beach that means a lot to him. But when he is taunted and banned from surfing there with his son, it sets off a chain of events that gradually drift away from reality, leading the audience to question even the reality we see. One aspect I enjoy is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to continue an effort we have invested in even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how difficult it is to step back and accept loss. Watching this at the GL Theatre with Cage and the rest of the cast was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.😄
